HODGES, Mrs. Helen Sigmund, 88, was born on February 21, 1925 and passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin W. Hodges; parents, Cpt. Robert Sigmund and Etta Mae Sigmund; and six brothers, Arthur, Robert, Joseph, Carl, Edward, and Gordon Sigmund. Helen was a lifelong resident of Varina and graduated from Varina High School in 1943. She was also a longtime member of Four Mile Creek Baptist Church and retired from The Department of Military Affairs. She is survived by her three sons, Robert A. (Cynthia), James H. (Margaret), and Billy J, (Kaye) Hodges; seven grandchildren, John Hodges, Amy H. Christian, Andrew Hodges, Marsha C. Durocher, Elizabeth H. Collins, Alisha H. Frank, and Ryan Hodges; nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, friends and caregivers at Westminster Canterbury, especially Allison Stanley. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2013 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Richmond, Va. 23231. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Four Mile Creek Baptist Church, 2950 New Market Road, Richmond, Va. 23231. Interment to follow in Washington Memorial Park.
