Bio
Lorraine Louise Saalfeld, 81 of Columbus, Nebraska, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on March 1, 2013, at the Cottonwood House in Columbus, Nebraska. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Patrick Sparling and Rev. Kurt Ebert officiating. Family interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be on Friday, March 15 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Saturday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday at 10:15 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Immanuel Lutheran School. Lorraine was born on March 9, 1931, in rural Colfax County to William and Clara (Johannes) Grotelueschen. She attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Schuyler High School. After graduation, Lorraine went to work at Becton-Dickinson. ON July 30, 1950, Lorraine was united in marriage to William E. Saalfeld at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She worked for three years at BD then became a devoted homemaker raising their three children. Once her children were in grade school, Lorraine worked at Sears in the catalog department for 21 years, First National Bank in accounting for 15 years, and Hy-Vee as a deli checker for three years. Lorraine was a great sports fan, very involved in her childrens and grandchilren's activities. She was an avid fan of Nebraska volleyball and Husker football. She also enjoyed reading and doing puzzles. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she had served on the funeral committee. Lorraine is survived by: Son - Tom (Kim) Saalfeld of Vail, CO Grandchildren - Sam Saalfeld and Mitch Sallfeld of Vail, CO Daughter - Anita (Mark) Shannon of Columbus, NE Grandchildren - Lindsey Shannon and TIm Shannon of Omaha, NE Daughter - Barb (Terry) Ludden of Columbus, NE Grandchildren - Christopher Ludden and Caitlin (fiancé - Colton DeBower) Ludden of Columbus, NE Brother - Hilbert Grotelueschen of Columbus, NE Brother - Raymond Grotelueschen of Fremont, NE Lorraine was preceded in death by: Husband - William Saalfeld Parents - William and Clara Grotelueschen Four Sisters Three Brothers
