Grand Island (Neb.) Independent Monday, September 18, 1967. Mrs. Gregor Bernt of Grand Island died Saturday in a hospital following a long illness. She had been a patient at the hospital for several months. Mrs. Antonio Bernt was born in Bogense, Denmark to Siegref and Anna Nissen. When she was a child of five, the Nissen family emigrated to this country and settled near Worms. She entered school at Zion Lutheran School at Worms. When the family moved to the Dannebrog community, she completed her schooling there. Mrs. and Mrs. Bernt were married Jan. 25, 1905 here. They resided in the Grand Island area all their wedded life. They had been residents of the city since 1935. Mr. Bernt died Nov. 9, 1966. Mrs. Bernt was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a member of the congregation at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She is survived by three children, Mrs. William McLellan and Lawrence Bernt, both of Grand Island and Cecil Bernt of Sacramento., Calif.; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Vivian Whitehead, one brother and one sister.
