Mrs. Doris Lucille Welty West Thomas, age 89, of Sanford, NC, died Friday, February 22, 2013 at her home. She was born in Chugwater, Wyoming on February 10, 1924 to the late Ross Jacob Welty and Frances Elizabeth Dudrean Welty. She was also preceded in death by her late husband Elmer Lee Thomas and brother Kenneth Welty and his wife Velma. Mrs. Thomas served our country in the United States Naval Service and worked for Roberts Company and retired from Blue Bell in Sanford. She was a member of Moore Union Christian Church and was very active in the 4-H Club in Wyoming where she raised lambs. She loved her flowers and working in the yard. Mrs. Thomas is survived by her sons Vann West and wife Lenna of Greenville, NC, Bryan Thomas and wife Stacy of Sanford; daughters Sharon West McDonald and husband Bertice of Sanford, Gay Anderson of Tybee Island, GA; 9 grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Moore Union Christian Church with Rev. David Yarborough officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral (2:00 to 3:00) at the church. Memorials may be made to Moore Union Christian Church, 4294 Buckhorn Road, Sanford, NC 27330.
