Bio

Rev. Davis consistently stated on the Federal censuses of 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 that he was born in North Carolina. The 1850 Census was Stewart Co.; that part of Stewart became Webster Co. in 1856 and thereafter he is shown in Webster Co. His first wife was Sarah Roe/Rowe Powell; they were married 24 Mar 1824 in Jefferson Co. GA. They had 6 known children before Sarah's death between 1839 and 1842. Elisha married Luticia Malinda McLeod on 6 Oct 1842 in Muscogee Co. GA. They had 9 known children before Luticia's death in 1873. Elisha then married widow Rebecca Brindley (MNU) about 1879 in Webster Co. GA. He died not long after they married, sometime between June and December of 1880. Known children with Sarah Roe/Rowe Powell: Joshua John Bartow Nancy Caroline William E. Louisa Jane Isaiah Andrew Jackson Known children with Luticia Malinda McLeod: Angeline Lucy/Louisa/Louisianna D. Benjamin Franklin Mary Ann/Malinda Ann George Washington Queen Victoria Mary Thomas Jefferson Margaret Rev. Davis was one of the pastors of Poplar Springs Primitive Baptist Church, which was constituted on July 12, 1834, about 4 miles south of Poplar Springs Cemetery, where it stood until 1942. It was then moved to Preston. It is not yet known where his first wife Sarah is buried. Luticia is buried in this cemetery with Elisha. Rebecca died in AL between 1900-1908, where she was living with her son Richard Brindley. This cemetery is located on the old George Brightwell place on Centerpoint Rd., near the old log home.
