He is registered in the Iowa Grand Army of the Republic membership records. He enlisted on 8 October 1861, and mustered in on 15 October 1861. He reenlisted as a Veteran on 5 January 1864, and mustered out on 20 January 1866 with the rank of a sergeant. On his membership card his residence is listed as Bluffton (Winneshiek County, Iowa) and his occupation is a laborer.
