Born to Timothy and Margery J. (Watson) Brown in about 1838 in Illinois, Hezekiah Brown served for the Union as a Sergeant in the Civil War. He married first to Eliza Ann C. Robinson in 1859 and it is possible she was the mother to Hezekiah's oldest daughter, Frances Tallulah Brown. Apparently Eliza passed away soon after they married and he then married his second wife, Louisa Mertie Crossley in Indiana in 1867. Three more children were born: William Arthur Nathaniel, George William and Charlie Hezekiah. One day in about 1875, Hezekiah left for work and never returned. It was always assumed that he had died while at work at the mill, but through further research I recently found him living in Saline County, Illinois when he applied for a Civil War pension in 1883. When he passed away in 1885, a military headstone was applied for in his name, but the person's name who applied for the headstone was not listed. It is my belief that he abandoned his family and went back to Illinois where he had been born and raised.
