DOD differs from newspaper article. One would think they could get the year of death correct. Published in the Daily World (Opelousas, Louisiana) on Monday 14 December 1970: Fire Victim Is Brother of Opelousan Funeral services were held in Lafayette today for Jean Paul Bertrand, 30, who died as the result of a fire last Thursday [10 December 1970] aboard an Indian cargo ship docked in New Orleans. The body was definitely identified by Dr. Charles Bertrand of Opelousas as that of his brother. Only the name “Jean Bertrand” was known until identification was made by the Opelousas pediatrician, a spokesman for the Orleans Parish coroner’s office said. Bertrand’s death was due to second and third degree burns over a large part of his body, and asphyxiation. The fire broke out in a cabin of the Vishva Shakti. Last rites were held at 9 a.m. today at St. John Cathedral in Lafayette, with burial in St. John Cemetery. Survivors besides his brother in Opelousas include his mother, Mrs. Dennis Bertrand of Lafayette; and a sister, Mrs. Paul Boriskie of New Orleans.
