Bio
On February 8, 2013, Sudie Jane Robnett Hartman,102, exchanged her life on earth for a better one in heaven and went home peacefully to be with her Lord. Jane was born November 23, 1910 on a farm in Shiloh near Klondike, the fourth of nine children born to Rev. Bruce and Emma Robnett. She was taught Christian principles of love, harmony, and cooperation and learned at an early age that a meaningful life involved service to others. Everyone in her family worked hard and helped each other, never realizing how blessed they were to be self-sufficient during the Great Depression in the 1930's. She received her early education at Shiloh. As a youth, Jane professed her belief in Christ, and since that time she has lived an upright life. Jane earned two degrees from East Texas State Teachers College, now Texas A & M University at Commerce. She began her career as an old-fashioned country school teacher in the rural communities of Shiloh, Scatterbranch, and Era, and later in the towns of Schulenburg and Odessa. She became a lifelong educator, eventually teaching in Venezuela and Florida. . Jane married William Fred Hartman, an A & M graduate and a civil engineer, on September 5, 1941, in Greenville. The couple celebrated forty happy years of marriage before Bill's death in 1981. After World War II Bill went to Venezuela to work with the Texas Oil Company, and for ten years Jane taught the American children in the company school. Their next move was to Florida, where Jane taught for another twenty years, retiring at age sixty-eight. Jane lived a long, useful, and dedicated life of service to others. She truly let her spiritual light shine throughout her journey here, and she enjoyed every day of it. We are all inspired by her strong work ethic and her desire to see the rest of us accomplish our goals. She provided a strong Christian role model for everyone to follow, and we thank her for her influence on our lives. Jane was a former member of The Bread of Life Church of the Nazarene in Commerce. She is survived by one sister Audrey Robnett Little of Austin and one sister-in-law Ruby Fulton Robnett of Crowley; eight nieces and seven nephews and their families, and a host of cousins and friends. Jane was preceded in death by her husband William F. Hartman; her parents Rev. Bruce and Emma Robnett; her brothers Riley, Elbert, Eldon, R.B., Clifton, and Ray Robnett; and one sister, Effie Moore. Funeral services will be 11:00am, Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Jones-Walker and Son Funeral Home, 1209 Live Oak St., Commerce, Texas.
