Pearl Veneta “Neta” (Hobbs) Tate A Texas native and child of Henry Simeon Hobbs and Zullah Mamie (Millican) Hobbs, she was born April 14th, 1919 in Granbury, Hood County, Texas and grew up in nearby Tolar, TX. She passed away quickly at the age of 100 at her home of 56 years in Auburn, CA, August 31st, 2019. She fell for the love of her life and married Milburn Jackson Tate on June 19th, 1937 in Granbury, TX. She was a very loving, hard-working and devoted mother and wife with a family of eight children and their spouses; grandmother of ten and their spouses; step-grandmother to several; great-grandmother of eight; and great-great-grandmother of four. Preceded in death are husband, “Jack”; sons Royce and Jerry; son-in-law, “Dick”; grandsons, Toby and Gerald; and great-granddaughter, Tanna. Also preceded were not only her parents but she also outlived all of her ten siblings (Lora Mae, William Earnest, Jessie Clarence, George Oscar, Richard, Lois, Leslie Edward, Virgie, Viola, and Luther). During her 95th birthday party she boldly claimed “I'll see you all back here again for my 100th!” She knew it was becoming less likely and so was proud when she made it to 100 years old. She had a perspective transcending most in a drastic century of innovation. Even though man had flown, horse and wagon were still in use when she was young. At the end smartphones and the internet linked us together like never before. As a child of the Great Depression and young adult in the WWII era, she went through a lot of tough times (financial, health, and heartache) in her life but still remained a diligent parent and provider. In 1948, she, Jack, and their family moved from Granbury to Ukiah, CA; then back to Texas for two years; then Ukiah, CA again in 1953; Klamath Falls, Oregon (around 1960-61); then Redding, CA; then Sheridan, CA; and finally settled into Auburn, CA in 1963. She was a pillar of the family in life and faith. She was an avid, faithful member of the church until her health prevented her attendance. And she had the greatest concern for her loved ones. She prayed constantly and passionately for her family, friends, and even strangers. She had love for everyone. She was very kind and accepting, even if she didn't agree with everyone's way of life. In which case, maybe you got prayed for a little harder. She was very compassionate and gave us our moral compasses. It was up to us check them, even if we didn't always do so. Regardless, as part of her family, she was a major reason for who we became and the influences of being who we are to others. Her shining example on others as a christian left an impact that made a difference in their lives as well. So consider this: Life is experiencing the world around us. Touching, feeling, believing, facing the unknown and feeling out of control. And doubt is the devil we all know but faith can get you where you need to go. Because hope is kinda the whole point and exactly what we're all looking for. Hope for a better existence. Hope to see and know our loved ones again. And hope and faith in a God who brings us a new experience and understanding. Despite all she had seen and the heartaches throughout her life, she was the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and even great-great-grandmother that anyone could ever hope for. She kept Jack at home in his final years to take care of, while battling cancer herself, and was lucky to have most of her family nearby. Our lives are blessed and enriched for having her in them. But after all these years since his passing, she said that she still missed Jack every day. It's been nearly eighteen years and now they're finally reunited in the presence of God, but we'll miss her dearly. And it's with hope that we will remember, love, and cherish her for who she was.
