Stewart Hinman, 49, was found dead Tuesday afternoon lying on the bathroom floor of his home, the victim of an apparently self-inflicted shotgun wound in the head. A 12-gauge shotgun, a long screwdriver, and a note were found near the body. Officers believed the screwdriver was used to trigger the gun. The shot entered the base of Hinman's skull. The body of the cafe-tavern owner and operator was discovered at 4 p.m. by his son, Monty, 16 when he arrived home from school. Investigating officers said the death came about 1:20 p.m. The Latah county sheriff's office is investigating. His wife had gone to Moscow with her sister and brother-in-law for the afternoon. Hinman apparently closed the tavern and cafe after they had gone. The bathroom is located in the family living quarters adjoining the business. Hinman was born on Aug. 22, 1913, and had lived in the Deary area for nearly 12 years. He had owned and operated Strut's Tavern and Cafe for about ten years. Besides his wife, he is survived by another son, Larry; his mother, Mrs. Olie Hinman, Deary; and two sisters, Gladys Schuehuber, Deary, and Mrs. Betty Hoeffliger, Whittier, Calif.
