Laura Bowen–Luschen, 96, passed peacefully from this world with joyous spirit into the waiting arms of her Heavenly Father on February 3, 2013. Our loving mother, grandmother and loyal friend blessed our lives with unconditional love, laughter and selfless giving. Laura was born in Sayre, Oklahoma on December 2, 1916 to William A. and Della Pearl (Poarch) Waldren. Laura and her younger brother, Charlie, grew up in the community of Erick, Oklahoma with her mother. Together they survived the aftermath of WWI, the hardships of the dust bowl era, the Great Depression and the many sacrifices required of those who supported WWII from the home front. As a result of those hardships, like many others of her generation, she developed the grit and determination that would become the core foundation of who she was throughout her lifetime. She also attended school and met her future husband in Erick. Laura Esther Waldren and Temple Glenn Bowen were married in Erick on December 12, 1932, where, by 1944, they were blessed with four children. This family of six would dedicate themselves to one another and in 1951, moved to Oklahoma City in support of Glenn's craft. There he pursued his vocation as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic; they happily raised their children, enjoyed a blessed retirement full of friends and dancing and lived happily together until Glenn's passing on March 24, 2002. In 2004, at the young age of 89, Laura married Martin "Dutch" Luschen. Dutch was also a widower and former friend who belonged to the same dance group that she and Glenn attended throughout their retirement. She and Dutch enjoyed a 7-year sunset marriage until Dutch's passing in 2011. True to her deep Christian faith, she and Dutch were members of the Putnam City Christian Church. We want to recognize our mother for the numerous contributions she made to the lives of all she touched. Her indescribable heart and desire to give back to others deserves far more than words can ever convey. She was a wonderful wife, a loving mother and devoted grandmother. She possessed a joyous spirit and shared her happiness, humor and feistiness with all who knew her. She always said it was she who was blessed; however, we knew different. We knew that we were, and are, the blessed ones to have had her in our lives. She is in our hearts now and will remain there always. Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Temple Glenn Bowen; one son, Earl Wayne Bowen, and her husband of 7 years, Martin Dutch Luschen. She is survived by one daughter, Patsy Ruth Strailey and her husband Kenneth; two sons, Charles K. Bowen and his wife Cassie and Howard E. Bowen and his wife Sue. She was adored by seven grandchildren: Vicki Bowen, Jeffery Bowen, Darcie Bowen Miciotto, Brent Bowen, Amy Bowen Brown, Matthew Bowen and Adam Bowen and 5 great grandchildren. Viewing will be Thursday, 9am-9pm with the family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be Friday, February 8, 10:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel with graveside services following at 2:30pm in Erick Cemetery, Erick, OK. The Bowen Family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the kindness and loving long-term care provided to Laura by Linda Love and Cary Hicks of Visiting Angels and Integris Hospice during the final weeks of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rebuilding Together, OKC or to the charity of your choice. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
