OBITUARY Sue Peters, 74, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at McCuistion Regional Medical Center, Paris. Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Delta Funeral Home Chapel with Ken Peden officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Arlie Sue McFadden was born at Glory Dec. 8, 1925, to Tom Green and Annie Mae McFadden. After graduation from Paris High School in 1942 and Paris Junior College in 1943, she taught at View Point School when she was 17 years old. She married Eugene Thomas Trapp Sept. 23, 1944, who preceded her in death in April 1950. In future years Sue received her master's degree from East Texas State Univeristy in Commerce. In 1954, she started teaching at East Delta School and continued there through 1959 when the school consolidated with Cooper school. She married Thomas Peters in 1956. Sue started the first special education classes at Cooper and continued teaching there until her retirement in 1985 after 35 years in education. Sue was a member of Cooper Church of Christ and was active in many organizations including the Delta County Association for Handicapped Children which she served as president. She served on the Red River Council Association for the Aid of Persons With Mental Problems and as an officer with the Delta County Cancer Board. She was a member of Texas Retired Teachers Association in Paris and Delta Kappa Gamma. She served on the Ark-TX Council of Governments as a representative for the Aging of Delta County. In 1999, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Education from the Delta County Chamber of Commerce. Surviving are her husband, Thomas; a daughter, Carol Larkin; two sons, Eddie and Larry Trap, and a sister, Belle Hargroves. Pallbearers will be Rodney, Wade, and Clint Hocutt, Michael, Bret, and Greg Williams, Ryan Trapp, and Curtis Fendley. The family requests memorials be made to the Delta County Unit of the American Cancer Society, Delta County Public Library, or the East Delta Community Center.
