Bonnie Jean Gates passed away on June 12, 2006, at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. She was born to William Benjamin Gates, Sr., and Elizabeth Scott (Bonnie) Gates on October 4, 1923 in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, brothers, W.B. Gates, Jr., John Franklin Gates, Robert Lewis (Bobby) Gates and her sister, Marjorie Gates Byrd Little. She is survived by her three children, Lynn Pegues Terrell of Carrizo Springs, John L. (Johnny) Pegues, Jr. of Uvalde, and Bonnie (Bonita) Pegues Ward, of Carrizo Springs; her seven grandchildren, Susan Storey Muehlstein, H.D. (Bubba) Storey, IV., Scott Terrell, John L. (Trey) Pegues, III, Rhett Pegues, Aaron Ward and Stephanie Ward Brown and ten great grandchildren. Bonnie Jean attended school in Crystal City, Texas where she was the last Queen Acelga before WWII, then she attended the University of Texas where she was selected to be a Bluebonnet Belle. She lived most of her life in the Crystal City area where she enjoyed ranching as her father had done before her.
