Obituary shared by contributor Austin Roberson #49616054 ***** Obituary for Ima Dawson Our mother, Ima Lee Dawson, passed away at her home Thursday evening, June 5, 2003, surrounded by her family. Her long battle with emphysema and cancer is over, and she now rests safely in the arms of Jesus. Mother was born to Marion Cevester Reese and Amanda Loweta Merritt on June 26, 1914. She would have been 89 on her birthday later this month. She was raised in the Poetry Community near Golden. She married James Andrew Dawson, February 24, 1934 and moved to Ellis County near Forreston until 1940 when she and her husband moved to Waxahachie, where she was a resident for six decades. In November 2001 she moved to Frost, Texas to be near her daughters because of her failing health. Mother was a seamstress by trade. She was past President of the VFW Women?s Auxiliary. A longtime member of Farley Street Baptist. Our mother devoted her entire life to her children and their offspring. She was an exceptionally strong woman with an enormous will to live. She was an excellent parent by her own example. She taught her children faith in God and to look upon all mankind with total equality. She is survived by her twin daughters, Marion Roberson and husband, Gene of Frost, TX and Marti Vantreese of Waxahachie, TX. Her baby daughter and husband, Faye Flores and Alex live in Frost. She has two stepsons, Forrest Ray Dugger and his wife of California and Mark Dugger of Duncanville. Her grandchildren and their mates are, Cindy and Randy Rejona, Dixie and Larry Burks, Joey and Judy Smithwick, Alan and Lillian Wilson, B. J. Wilson, Jeanie and Allen Shivers, Johnny and Kim Smithwick, Coleman and Ivy Jaynes, Glynda and Don Atwell, Phillip and Ann Jaynes, Carl and Dianne Jaynes, Ren Vantreese, Lori and Jim Driver, Rusty and Donna Roberson, Pam and James Dobson, Carla and John Reel and Rodney Roberson. Her great grandchildren are, Brandon Belsher, Rachel Rejona, Joel Bryant, Katy Schmidt, Ami Horner, Joe Smithwick, Jr., Morgan Smithwick, Trace Medlock, Corey and Cody Sanchez, Sadie and Deke Wilson, James and Nancy Wilson, twins Libby Malkuch and Angie Martin, Amanda and Abbyn Smithwick, Nathaniel Baldwin, twins Terry and Kerri Baldwin, Jack Jaynes, Michael and twins Carl and Volley Jaynes, twins Jack and James Driver, Jennifer and Justin Driver, Mindy, Megan and Michael Dobson and Morgan and Makayla Reel. Her great great-grandchildren are twins John and Shelby Belcher, Zaine Smithwick, Mallory Smithwick, Karson Horner, Bailey Medlock, Mattie, Isabelle and Allie Malkuch, Colby and Cauy Martin, Tristan, Stockard and Ryder Smithwick, Cory Davis, Jr., and John and Charles Driver. Preceding her in death were both husbands, her father and mother, two sisters, three brothers, an infant daughter, Linda Kay Dawson, granddaughter, Jeri Gail Smithwick, great grandsons, John Wayne Smithwick and Daniel Wilson and her life-long and dearest friend, Irene Deal. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 P. M. Sunday, June 8, 2003 at Farley Street Baptist Church with Reverend Richard Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Waxahachie City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Joe and John Smithwick, Ren Vantreese, Coleman, Phillip and Carl Jaynes and Alan and Berny Wilson. The family will receive friends at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6 ? 8 P. M.
