His greatest passion was horses. He broke, trained, and rode horses his entire life. He was a big rodeo fan. He said many times, "If the Lord intended for a man to walk, he wouldn't have made horses." He worked for the telephone company for over 30 years, while ranching and raising horses. He was still ranching and riding his horses up until 2 months before his death.
