Bio

Joseph C. Gibson, 89, the last survivor of eight siblings, passed away on January 11, 2013 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 Am, Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Lamar Baptist Church with Alec Haigood officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home. Joseph was born in Burkburnett, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Gibson, Sr. but moved as a baby to Clay County and graduated from Henrietta High School. At age 17 he went to CCC Camp for 2 years. Joseph proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He attended Midwestern University (Hardin Junior College). He was Vice President of Bailey Meissner Company for thirty years. He also was the owner of Connor-Gibson for ten years and worked at Wichita Pipe and Supply until his retirement. Joseph was a longtime member of Lamar Baptist Church where he became a Deacon in 1962 and helped the church by serving in many other capacities. He married Arlene Thomas on June 9, 1946. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Mitsi Alexander. He is survived by his wife Arlene of Wichita Falls, TX. Their children are Dee Penrod and husband Ken of Richardson, Texas; Lisa Booher and fiancé Johnny Dorton of Randlet, Ok; Sharon Russell and husband David of Dripping Springs, TX; his former son-in-law Bryan Alexander and wife Lisa of Wichita Falls, TX. Their grandchildren are Joel Penrod and wife Veronica of Ft. Worth, TX; Matthew Alexander of Denton, TX; Taralah Russell of New York City; Emily Wadjun and husband Cody of Wichita Falls, TX; and Annie Alexander of Wichita Falls, TX. Their great grandchildren are Elijah and Noa Penrod of Ft. Worth, TX. The family will be at the funeral home Monday evening from 6-7 PM, for visitation.
