LYNN OF NEAR PRINCETON WAS BURIED THIS AFTERNOON Mother of Fourteen Children – 46 Grandchildren – 28 Great Grandchildren. Saturday's Daily. After a long useful life of eighty years Mrs. Newton B. Lynn died yesterday morning at 11 o'clock at her home near Princeton eight miles east of McKinney. She had been feeble for a long while, and her last illness was of several weeks duration. Her aged husband, two years her senior, is also very sick. Mrs. Lynn whose maiden name was Sarah Dickens, was born in Washington county, Georgia, January 18, 1826. Her parents moved to Russell county, Alabama, in the winter of 1843. She was married to Newton B. Lynn August 18, 1844, and they resided in Alabama for thirty-one years afterward. In 1875 they moved to Texas and settled at Bluff Springs, now Bluffdale. Two years later they came to Collin county in 1877 where they have continuously resided since. Mrs. Lynn was the mother of fourteen children, eight of whom lived to be grown – four sons and four daughters. The oldest, Saluda Enseline, then Alexander Winfield, Thomas Jefferson, William Newton Jr., Catherine Wiles, John Clinton, Sarah Francis and Martha Virginia. Emma, the eldest, married John F. Lockhart in 1871, and died in McKinney, November 21, 1900, leaving eight children, the eldest being Mrs. Sam Cotner, of this city. Catherine married J. A. Godwin in 1871 and now lives near Princeton. She has eleven children. Francis married T. A. Phillips in 1881 and lives in Vineland; she has eight children. Martha married R. A. Campbell in 1881 and lives near Princeton, also having eight children. A. W. Lynn lives near Princeton, having five children, Thomas J. died in Dallas July 2nd, 1903, with four children surviving. W. N., died Mary 10, 1885 near Allen, two children surviving. John, the youngest son, is unmarried, having been an invalid at home for over thirty-two years, from rheumatism. Five of Mrs. Lynn's children are still living. She leaves forty-six grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. On August 18, 1904, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn celebrated their sixtieth marriage anniversary, with a family reunion of their numerous posterity, some eighty persons being present, all relatives. Mrs. Lynn was a true Southern woman. When the Civil war broke out her husband enlisted in the Confederate army, and she assumed the care and support of their ten children, the eldest being just twelve years old. She had been a member of the Missionary Baptist church since 1849, and was a true Christian woman. Her life was filled with deeds of charity and love, and she had scores of friends who will sincerely mourn her demise. The funeral took place this afternoon, the interment being made in Princeton cemetery.
