S.L. McKenzie Jr., 92, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, in Southlake. Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel, Mr. Kent Benfer officiating. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. S.L. was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Tennessee Colony to Sydney Lester McKenzie Sr. and Artie Gage. He married Iva Hamilton in 1939 in Tyler. S.L. served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Sentry Insurance Co. S.L. was a longtime member of Baker Boulevard Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Iva "Pat" McKenzie; his parents; three sisters; and two brothers. Survivors: Children, Ronnie McKenzie of Keller, Linda Farris and husband, Weldon, of Fort Worth and Cheryl Busby and husband, Danny, of Decatur; grandchildren, Sherry Farris, Brittany McKenzie and Jason Busby and wife, Shellie; great-grandchildren, Kandice Moser, Shaela Ward and husband, Cliff, Taylor McKenzie and Garrett Busby; great-great-grandchildren, Gabrial Moser, Jaden Moser and Shaelyn Ward; siblings, Austin McKenzie and wife, Mary, Shirley Hardy and Jerry McKenzie and wife, Kathy; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
