Bio

John W. (Jay) Stone, 87, of Amarillo died Sunday, December 23, 2012. Funeral services will be Friday, at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Jay was born October 6, 1925 in Tahoka, Texas to Lee and Leslie Stone. After graduating from Anton High School, he joined the army and served in a chemical mortar battalion. In 1947 he married Mary Louise Dooley and they started farming in Anton, Texas. In 1955 they moved to Dimmitt where he farmed and later custom farmed for many years. He lived in Dimmitt until 2009 when he moved to the Community Living Center at the V.A. where he was blessed with the most loving and wonderful care anyone could have for 3 ½ years. We are so grateful to them for their life enriching environment. Family was the most important thing in his life. All he knew was hard work and he did it gladly to provide for them. Jay and his wife were known for their yard and people would stop and ask about their plants. He loved music and reading. He was probably one of the few farmers with classical music playing in his tractor cab. He had a strong moral sense and believed that Jesus was Lord. He is survived by his 3 daughters, Mary Lee Dunlop and husband Jack of Amarillo; Jo Ann Davis of Amarillo; and Linda Heck and husband Lewis of Dimmitt; a brother, Donald Stone of Arkansas, 7 grandchildren and their spouses; 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and 2 brothers, Vernon and Bud Stone.
