Corsicana Daily Sun July 5, 2004 Mary Lois Montgomery Bruton Mary Bruton was born on Jan. 14, 1914 at Concord to Mary Anne Freeman Montgomery and Travis Culver Montgomery, son of Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Webster Montgomery. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; sisters, Eula Montgomery and Thelma Faye Montgomery Matthews; and brother, Seth Ward Montgomery. She is survived her husband, Woodrow Wilson Bruton of Heritage Oaks Retirement Village; sisters, Nell Montgomery Marshall of Beeville, Martha Montgomery Frisby of Corsicana; brother, Daniel Webster Montgomery of Victoria, and a host of nephews, nieces, grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews. She was a graduate of what is known locally as "The Historic Hubbard High School" after her family moved to Hubbard when she was an infant. Mary Bruton was married to Woodrow for 65 years, in one of the most dedicated relationships most folks have ever witnessed. Childless, Mary had Woodrow's bath water drawn, clean clothes folded and dinner ready whenever Woodrow returned from the fields. Her siblings, nieces and nephews all looked on visits from a day to a week with Aunt Mary a rare treat and culinary adventure. She was a member of Itasca's First United Methodist Church before moving to Corsicana and Heritage Oaks in 2001. She was a rare and beautiful human being inside and out, and part-time "mother" to her sisters Nell and Martha until she married. She was buried in Hubbard's Fairview Cemetery Sunday, July 4, at a graveside service in a family plot led by the Rev. Nannete Wyatt of Coolidge First United Methodist Church, formerly of Corsicana, and a family friend. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Corsicana are requested. Arrangements by Corley Funeral Home.
