Son of William Joseph McCants & Alta Sarah Milbourn Kenneth G. McCants, son of William J. and Alta Sarah (Milbourn) McCants, was born Jul 10, 1924 in Falls Twp, Caldwell, Kansas. He passed away Monday evening, April 15, 2002 in the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita, KS at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 5 days. Kenneth was called to serve his country with the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed in the Rhineland until his honorable discharge in 1946. On June 8, 1946, Kenneth was united in marriage with Betty Tow in Wellington, Kansas and to this union two daughters were born; Veda and Reva. Betty passed away January 2, 1973. Kenneth married Evelyn Rader (Hecht) on June 30, 1973 in Elko, Nevada and the couple made their home in Caldwell, Kansas. Kenneth worked for the farmers Coop of Caldwell for 38 1/2 years as elevator foreman and later driving a truck for them. He then worked for Willis Kerr from 1985 to 1999. Kenneth loved to garden and had a green thumb to show for it. He took great pride in his yard and although he didn't have much spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors in his yard. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother; Robert "Bud" McCants. He will be missed by his wife, Evelyn McCants of Caldwell; his daughters: Veda Mitchell of Wichita, KS, Reva Smith of Wellington, KS; two step-sons; Daniel Hecht and Scott Hecht, both of Boise, Idaho; two step-daughter's; Vickie Armstrong of Caldwell, KS and Belinda Olson of Avon, Minnesota; a nephew, whom Kenneth raised as his son; Robert Dean McCants of Gold Canyon, Arizona; one brother Dale McCants of Modesto, California; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. The service was officiated by Vernie Hovorka of Harper, Kansas. Heath Smith, grandson of Kenneth sang "Grandpa" Karen Sturm and Norma White sang "Supper Time". Pallbearers were his 4 grandsons, Jason and Kenneth Mitchell, Anthony and Heath Smith, and two very good friends, Scott and Travis York, honorary bearers were Willis Kerr, Clifford Murdock and Cliff Henry. Memorials can be made to the Diabetes Association or the Caldwell Hospital. Interment was in the Caldwell Cemetery, Caldwell, Kansas. Gene Struble and Wayne Volk presented the flag to the family.
