Singleton was born June 27, 1893, at Ardmore, Missouri, and died at the Veteran's Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, of pneumonia on January 6, 1936. His sickness began as a common cold the middle of November and rapidly developed into pneumonia. He united with the Presbyterian Church at College Mound, Missouri, and later enlisted in the World War and saw fourteen months of service in France before the armistice was signed. On January 29, 1920, he married Elsie Griep of Moville. Two children were born to this union, a son, L.J., now age 14, and a daughter, Berniece, age 11. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Fannie Singleton of Collinsville, Illinois, a brother, R.W. Singleton and a sister, Mrs. Paul Phipps, also of Collinsville, Illinois, R.D. and J.W. Singleton of Bushnell, Nebraska, Mrs. Frank Evertson of Kimball, Nebraska, Mrs. L.O. Clarkson of Callao, Missouri, and Mrs. Alfred Kibler of Los Angeles, California. His father preceded him in death seven years ago and a sister preceded him in death five years ago. Funeral services were held from the Rock Branch Methodist Church and burial was made in the Rock Branch Cemetery on January 8, 1936, in charge of Rev. Garner Osborn, minister, and Funeral Director, B.F. Stiles of Moville.
