Bio
Departing this life only four days after her only brother, Matej Trility, who passed away four days previous, Mrs. Katie (Grandma) Hofbauer died early Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jos. Trpisovsky near Bee at the age of 81 years. She had been in failing health for about two years past. Katerina Trility was her maiden name and she was born Ratodice, Czechoslovakia, April 10, 1850. She was married to Jacob Hoffbauer and they came to America, settling in Saunders County, near Wahoo, where they lived for thirty years during which time Mr. Hoffbauer was engaged in farming. In 1907 they retired from the farm and moved to Brainard. Mr. Hoffbauer died in 1917 and since that time Mrs. Hoffbauer has made her home with the Trpisovsky family. Mrs. Hoffbauer was the mother of sixteen children, eight of whom died in infancy or childhood. One daughter, Mrs. Vincent Kastl, died in 1918 and another, Mrs. Joseph Simerdla, in 1929. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Sadie) Trpisovsky and Miss Katie Hoffbauer living near Bee, and four sons, John of Seward, Henry of Loma and Thomas and Jacob of Brainard. She also leaves forty grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Catholic Woman’s Society of Brainard and Loma. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at ten o'clock at the Bee Catholic church, conducted by Rev. Father Huebsch and remains were then brought to Brainard and a second service held at Holy Trinity church here, conducted by Rt. Rev. Klein assisted by Rev. Father Huebsch. Burial was in the Brainard Catholic cemetery by the side of her husband. Members of the Knights of St. George, of which the deceased’s husband had been a leader during his lifetime, were pall-bearers.
