PAUL REICHERT The funeral services for Paul Peter Reichert, 81, longtime Union Center area rancher, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial will be at the Bear Butte Cemetery under the direction of the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Visitation at the funeral chapel will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) and one hour prior to the church service. Memorials have been established to the Central Meade County Community Center and the Sturgis Health Care Center. Paul Reichert died at the Sturgis Community Care Center Nov. 16,1992. He was born March 13,1911, on his parents' homestead in central Meade County to George and Drusilla (Boshart) Reichert. He attended rural school in the Haydraw and Hereford areas. His early years were spend working with livestock and there was seldom a day that Paul was not on a horse. He worked for the Diamond A Cattle Company at Eagle Butte in 1932 and 1933 and after returning to Meade County in 1934, he sold his cattle to the government. He survived the rest of the 30's by trapping coyotes and breaking horses. June 1,1939, he married Mildred Gaudig of Miller, S.D. They lived on the Reichert homestead until October, 1958, when they built a new home and ranch buildings four miles southeast. He was active in farming, cattle, sheep and horse ranching until 1990. For the last 10 years his grandson Monte Reichert assisted him on the ranch. Paul loved horses, hunting, trapping, fishing and playing baseball. He planted many trees, raised pheasants and worked to control predators. He had a broad understanding of wildlife, nature, plants and history of the West. He read widely, but only non-fiction and poetry. Writing poetry was a favorite pastime and he entertained his family with both humorous and dramatic poems. He was a member of the NRA and Farmers Union. Survivors include his widow Mildred of Sturgis: son Gene Reichert, Billings, Mont.; daughter, Judy Bundorf, Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother Hugh of Hereford; two sisters, Edna Basler of Rapid City, SD; Lois Reichert of Washington, D.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John, and a sister, Ruth Hudson. (Meade County Times-----Nov. 18,1992, p. 10)
