William Harold Stephenson (son of William Marion Stephenson and Sarah Jane Milstead) married Henrietta "Etta" Glass on September 4, 1898 at Talco, Texas. They lived on a farm east of McCaulley, Fisher County, Texas and he worked as a rural mail carrier. He was a community and church leader. Stephenson Slated Today At McCaulley Pioneer Resident of Fisher County and Father of Abilenian Is Claimed By Death Saturday Funeral services for W.H. Stephenson, 61, resident of Fisher County for nearly thirty years, will be held at 3 p.m. today from the McCaulley Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. John P. Hardesty and C.E. Dick officiating. The Masonic Lodge will have charge of the burial. Mr. Stephenson died Saturday noon at his home in McCaulley. His wife and children were at the bedside. The children are W.A. Stephenson of Abilene, government instructor at Hardin-Simmons University; Ora Stephenson, teacher in Port Arthur High School; Virgil Stephenson, principal of elementary grades at Stanton; Mrs. Virgil Steel, nee Muriel Stephenson, of McCaulley; and Rowland Stephenson, teacher in the high school in Dalhart. Other survivors are his mother, Mrs. S.J. Stephenson of Rotan; three brothers, Grover and Dick Stephenson of Rotan, and Ollis Stephenson of Wichita Falls; sisters, Mrs. O.D. McFerrin and Mrs. Gable Crawford of Talco, and Mrs. Annie Crossland of Oklahoma City; and four grandchildren, Ora Francis, John Harold and Sarah Ann Steele of McCaulley and Etta Jane Stephenson of Abilene. W.H. Stephenson was born July 23, 1873 at Mount Pleasant in Titus County. He was married to Etta Glass at Talco on September 4, 1898. The couple moved to Fisher County in 1905 and settled on a farm east of McCaulley, where they lived for two years. Mr. Stephenson worked up a rural route, carrying mail over a 25-mile route in horse and buggy for many years. His territory more recently had included a sixty-mile stretch. A member of the Baptist denomination for 45 years, he was the oldest deacon in the McCaulley Church. Pallbearers will be Sam Hardy, Ben Short, Lewis Rector, Bill Fletcher, M.L. Akins and Luther Rector.
