John W. Spelts April 1, 1934-Nov 11, 2012 John W. Spelts, 78, of North Platte, passed away Nov. 11, 2012, at Cozad. He was born April 1, 1934, to John and Lucille (Gumm) Spelts. He attended Madrid High School and later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. John was united in marriage to Verna Joy Fister on May 28, 1958, at Ogallala. They moved to North Platte in 1960, and he was employed by the U.P.P.R. as a fireman/oiler. He was a member of the VFW and past member of the Knights of Columbus. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking and playing horseshoes. Survivors include his wife, Verna, of North Platte; his son, Randy (Harriet) Spelts, of North Platte; his daughter, Julie (Kai) Nylander, of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; brothers, Dan (Jean Ann) Spelts, of Arlington, Texas, and Doug (Georgia) Spelts, of Cambria, Calif; and grandchildren, Hilary, Michael and Molly Spelts, and Ashley Nylander. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lou Otterstein and Lola Johnson. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Inurnment will be at Ft.
