WISE, Va. Thelma Bernice Sanders, formerly of Norton, Va., died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at the age of 86. Known for her sharp mind and quick wit, Bernice, or "Aunt Reecie" to her family,was a devout Christian lady who devoted her life to caring for her family, especially her aging parents, Amos and Cassie Sanders until their deaths. She was fiercely patriotic and was especially proud of her brothers' military service in World War ll. She was preceded in death by her parents; and six brothers, John, Howard, Reuben, Roy, Edward and Farrell; as well as two sisters, Eliza and Dorothy. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Marie McConnell of Howell, Mich. and Mrs. Leoria Spradlin and husband, Bill of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Estes Funeral Home in Coeburn, Va. with the Rev. Barry Sarver officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m. before the noon service. Internment will follow at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Estes Funeral Home, Coeburn is in charge of arrangments.
