Mabel D. Sinner, 81, went to be in God's care Friday Nov. 2, 2012 at Heritage Estates Nursing Home in Gering. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Matt Fowler of Scottsbluff United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials can be made in Mabel's honor to Gering First United Methodist Church. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Mabel Dorothy (Pokorny) Sinner was born Jan. 4, 1931 in Burwell, Neb. to Charles and Barbara (Kuklish) Pokorny. She grew up in the Burwell area during her youth before moving to Mitchell. Mabel met and later married Marvin W. Sinner of Gering, Aug. 18, 1950. From this marriage two children were born, Robin Kay and Paula Jane. Mabel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She worked at the Gering Sugar Factory during campaign in the late 60's and early 70's. She loved to camp and fish. Marvin and Mabel would travel to the Black Hills and other fishing spots in South Dakota with family and friends. Mabel had many hobbies one being making beautiful braiding rugs from clothing remnants. She spent a great deal of her time making all different kinds of quilts, which she shared with family and friends. Mabel enjoyed gardening and was known for the cabbage she grew. She generously shared her garden bounty with others. Mabel will be remembered by many for her cabbage burgers, cinnamon rolls, and kolaches. Mabel will be sadly missed by her daughters, Les and Robin (Sinner) Nepper of Milan, Ill., Terry and Paula (Sinner) Schank of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Terry Nepper of Lincoln, Tara and Taylor (Schank) Pope of Saronville, Neb., and Reed and Crystal (Schank) Palser of Gering. Mabel's great-grandchildren were the joy of her life, Ashlynn, Cord, Parker, and Easton will miss their great-grandmother. Preceding Mabel in death was her loving husband, Marvin William Sinner who passed Dec. 22, 1988; her infant son, Steven and 14 brothers and sisters. .Published in The Star-Herald from November 6 to November 8, 2012
