Bio

Harriet A. Hansen, 85, of Grand Island died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at Edgewood Vista. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. William Pavuk will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Hansen was born Aug. 17, 1927, at Aberdeen, S.D., to Herman and Marian (Churchill) Rock. Her husband, Verden Hansen preceded her in death on April 3, 2000. Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Greg Urwiller of Grand Island; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ron and Tammy Hansen of Grand Island and Bob Hansen of Loveland, Colo.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Verona Rock of Fairmont, Minn. Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Jake Urwiller and Lisa Urwiller and great-granddaughter, Emma Urwiller. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Warren and sisters, Alice, Fran and Bertha. Harriet was raised and received her education at Stratford, S.D., graduating from Stratford High School as class valedictorian, class of 1945. She received a scholarship to attend the Grand Island Business College. On May 6, 1948, she was united in marriage to Verden Hansen. They lived most of their married life in Grand Island. Harriet was employed as a secretary at various Grand Island businesses and then retired from Kriz Davis following many years of service. She and Verden enjoyed their retirement. She is a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. Some of her enjoyments included watching Tiger Woods play golf, Husker sports, Yankee's Baseball, cross-stitching but most of all spending time with family and friends.
