Bio

Frankie Carolyn James Nichols was born March 1, 1942, in DeRidder, LA, to Ersel and Jewel (White) James. She passed from this life to her eternal home on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at the age of 70. Born the fourth child of nine children but the first girl of the family, she learned many homemaking and cooking skills. Frankie considered it a pleasure to cook for her family and friends. Frankie grew up in the Pitkin/Rosepine Community. She attended Rosepine Elementary and High School where she dearly loved to play basketball for the Eagles. She graduated from Rosepine High in 1961. During those high school days, she met the love of her life, Thomas C. Nichols. They were married on April 21, 1962, at Rev. Johnny Mathis home in Rosepine, LA. Frankie and TC enjoyed 50 years and 7 months of marriage. To this union were born two sons Gaylon and Stacey Nichols. She thoroughly enjoyed making and sewing their clothes, going fishing and camping with her boys, and watching them achieve every milestone in life. Frankie's joy of cooking enabled her to work for her brother, Sonny James at his restaurant in DeRidder, LA, the Rosepine High School cafeteria, and her nephew, Tim James' restaurant in Lumberton, TX. TC's construction work took them many places, but they finally settled down in Vinton, LA. It was here they built a home and hosted many family dinners. Frankie loved to attend her grand children's school and church plays, sporting events, and church choir cantatas. She was thrilled when the "greats" started to join the family and called for a daily report of their accomplishments and well-being. Christmas was her favorite time of the year. She loved to see the excitement on the children's faces when they opened each carefully and thoughtfully selected gift she gave them. Frankie is survived by her husband; her two sons and daughters-in-law; four granddaughters and two sons-in-law; two great grandchildren; two sisters; six brothers and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services were Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home, DeRidder, LA, Rev. Jeff James officiated. Burial followed in the Old Cryer Cemetery, Leesville, LA. Services were under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA.
