Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Monday, 22 March 1993, contributed by diaNEB #47466150 Gilbert D. McBride, 80, of 303 W. 10th, died Sunday, March 21, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home with Vicar John Hood officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Greeley Cemetery in Greeley. Mr. McBride was born May 2, 1912, at Cedar Rapids, the son of David and Hattie (Rieck) McBride. He grew up and was educated in Bartlett. He married Gladys Dawes in 1943 in Greeley. The couple lived in the Greeley area, farming until 1954, when they moved to Grand Island, where he worked for Brown Fruit Co. in the warehouse. Mrs. McBride died in 1955. On Dec. 1, 1956, Mr. McBride married Marjorie A. Liske in Burwell. In 1965, Mr. McBride went to work for the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island, retiring in 1973. Mr. McBride was baptized in the Presbyterian Church and later attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; two sons, Gilbert "Dale" of Phillips and Donald "Gene" of North Platte; three daughters, Gladys "Lucille" Jacobson of Omaha, Rosemarie G. Lange of Alliance and Dianne K. Christ of St. Louis, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, August McBride of Burwell; and one sister, Dorothy Ackerman of Petersburg. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys; two brothers, Cliff and Vern; and one sister, Ruth.
